Patients not covered by Medicare admitted to NSW hospitals ( Eg recent immigrants tourists)
Circular 2004/36 dated 8July2004 states under Para 3.2 -
However, where the PHO requires a VMO to treat an ineligible Inpatient under the service contract ....as a public patient Public Patient Indemnity Cover will be provided to the VMO.
In this situation the VMO cannot raise a charge on the ineligible patient and the VMO is paid by the PHO for services provided at the appropriate VMO rate [sessional, FFS, RDA] .
